Ciudad Danza- Dance Studio, residence in Silly Monkeys Playhouse in Coconut Grove. Directed by Galia Bermudez, one of the most recognized Dance Administrators, instructors, producers, and directors in her country of origin: Colombia. Now in Miami, with 20 years of experience in Colombia and The United State, she founded CIUDAD DANZA. It is a different art project, because respects the nature of childhood and makes the classroom a creative, technical and joyful space.

CIUDAD DANZA wants to be a space open to the children, youth, and adults of the Coconut Grove, offerings a new experience with the ballet technique, contemporary Dance, Jazz, and modern choreographies. The performance will be beautiful and professional productions.

DIRECTOR: Galia Bermúdez

Dancer, philosopher, and Musician, she has worked in many dance schools, cultural projects, and performance production, form more than 25 years ago. She is a researcher in new educational strategies and contemporary pedagogics methods focused on Dance, art, and performing. Her principal goal is the development of the different skills in the children and youth, who are the principal protagonist of their learning.  The student will be a grander dancer, performer, with excellent technique, creation, and performing.

CIUDAD DANZA was founded in 2021, as a non for profit dance organization. The main purpose of the Company is to promote and preserve the legacy of the Dance Culture, of the contemporary Dance, offering our community the highest quality of artistic programs ad performances.

STUDENTS & PARENTS GUIDELINES

CIUDAD DANZA has certain policies regarding dance attire, uniforms, class attendance, make-up classes, and cancellations due to weather.  If you have any questions about our policies, please feel free to ask for more information.

General rules and regulations make for a professional and organized school. We ask you to kindly follow, these guidelines so that we can spend our valuable time dancing rather than correcting tardiness and/or untidiness.

ENROLLMENTS

Each student can take a first trial class. After that, he or she must complete the registration process.
The new student must pay the registration fee and the monthly payment in advance.
Each month the monthly payment must be paid for the first 5 days of the month. After day 5 you will have a late fee of $ 15, per week of delay.
A student who misses class will not receive refunds, nor will the class be replaced.
Classes are only replaced when Ciudad Danza cannot teach them. After 3 unexcused absences from class, the student will lose her spot in the course. The spots are limited.

ARRIVAL

Please arrive earlier, no later. Arrive 10 minutes before your class is scheduled to begin, already dressed in your leotard, class wear, and slippers, with hair neatly secured in a gelled bun.

PICK UP

All students should be picked up in a timely fashion, within 10 minutes of the end of class.  Faculty and staff will not be responsible for unattended children at the school waiting to be picked up. 

CLASS ATTENDANCE

Classes will begin on time as scheduled, the studios doors will be closed 10 minutes after the class started, because the student have a high risk of injury if he or she is late.

DANCE ATTIRE

All students are required to wear appropriate dance attire, grooming is part of the discipline of dance and we are adamant that all students adhere to the high standards set.  Students not properly groomed will not be allowed to attend class. For the safety of the students, we require that they wear cover-ups and street shoes to and from class.

UNIFORMS

Classrooms uniforms give the pupil a sense of pride and belonging.  Every item of clothing and footwear should be marked. Every class has a specific code.

HAIR

Without exceptions, hair must be secured off the neck and away from the face.  All students in ballet class must have hair up in a gelled bun, secured with a hair net and hairpins.

JEWELRY

NO bracelets, necklaces, or rings will be allowed.  Small earrings will be permitted.

MOBILE PHONES

Students could bring their mobile phones but they have to be TURNED OFF during classes.

STUDIO ETIQUETTE

Students should show respect for the property of others and the facilities: leave others belongings alone; help keep the studio building and grounds clean and neat by putting waste paper, etc. in the trash cans.

No food drinks or gum allowed in the studio or administrative area. Water may be brought into the studio in plastic bottles/empty bottles must be removed. All students must put their belongings in the places provided for them.

Parents are welcome while waiting for the students, no loud or disruptive behavior will be tolerated.

CANCELATIONS DUE TO WEATHER

The School will close according to the Dade-County advisory in case of emergencies, tropical storms, and hurricanes. 

TRIAL CLASS

Prospective students are encouraged to trial class, if available, prior to sign-up, with an appointment. 

LOST PROPERTY

CIUDAD DANZA is not responsible for lost or stolen items.  Please collect your belongings at the end of your classes, unclaimed goods will be donated to the needy each week.

INSTRUCTOR-STUDENT CONTACT

CIUDAD DANZA offers teaching that is individual and hands-on. It is normal and appropriate for a member of the faculty to manually and physically place a pupil to explain a point of instruction or to identify some needed technical correction. The School neither condones nor tolerates any touching of students by instructors that is harmful, professionally reckless, or that violates generally accepted tenets of propriety.  Before enrolling a student, please consider that it is school policy to correct children with physical contact.  If the student or parent/guardian is uncomfortable with this policy, you may wish to reconsider enrolling the student.

LATE FEES

All payments must be received by the 6th of every month, there will be a charge of $15 after this date.

ADDITIONAL REHEARSALS

During performance dates there might be some extra time for rehearsals, everybody involved in the productions must attend these rehearsals.

WEAR MASK IS OPTIONAL

Wearing a mask is recommended for the current Covid crisis, but the dance is an intense exercise and demands a strong breath. The student should not feel any time that he or she is short of breath.

CIUDAD DANZA - SCHOOL PROGRAMS

ANNUAL SUMMER SCHOOL PERFORMANCE

Our annual School Performance takes place at a theater and it is mandatory to showcase the progress of the dancers throughout the year. All dancers must take part in these productions as they are part of their classwork.

CULTURAL ARTS CENTER SUMMER & WINTER SHOWCASES

To showcase and develop the student’s confidence, stage presence, charisma, and technical skills the school will have Showcases in June and December. During these performances, you will have the chance to see the improvement of the students.

ANNUAL PRODUCTION

CIUDAD DANZA and Professional Dance Company will work together in our annual performance of the different beautiful Ballet or Dance Performance. The students are invited to take part in this unforgettable experience.
